School children across Bolton are being asked to unleash their creativity and take part in cake design competitions to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

There are two competitions running; one is to design a cake based on the Jubilee theme and the second is for the best cupcake recipe.

Both competitions can be entered by individual pupils or class groups via their school.

Two internationally recognised creative cake designers – Rosie Cake Diva and Kaykes will be on hand with top tips and advice throughout the competition as well as acting as our head judges.

Winners will get the chance to work with these leading cake designers to see their designs brought to life for Bolton’s Food and Drink Festival this August.

And as if that wasn’t enough, winning designers will also take home a Samsung tablet and get to see their competition entry in a limited-edition recipe book.

The competition launched on April 19 and the closing date for entries is June 6.

Entry forms will be available from primary and secondary schools after the Easter-holidays.

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “This is a fun and creative way children can celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

“We look forward to seeing the winning design at the Food and Drink Festival in the summer.”

Alongside these cake creations, Bolton will celebrate the jubilee in royal style with a series of town centre events over the special bank holiday weekend.

Victoria Square will host The Decades of Music concert on the Friday (June 3) from noon until 10pm, followed by the Picnic on the Square on the Saturday (June 4) from noon to 6pm.

Both days will feature live music, a bar and food stalls, and activities for children and young people of all ages.
