Bolton councillors have marked World Social Work Day by thanking the hard working staff who dedicate themselves to supporting others.

The third Tuesday of March is designated as an international day of recognition for those who “support, empower and safeguard the most vulnerable adults and children in society”.

The day itself falls within Social Work Week, a wider series of events designed to celebrate and raise awareness of the vital contribution made by social workers.

This week, Bolton Council’s social workers will take part in team activities as well as online learning and sharing programmes with Greater Manchester colleagues.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Cllr Andy Morgan, said:

“Our social workers provide a wide range of services to adults across the borough with a variety of complex needs.

“All year round, they demonstrate compassion, empathy and dedication so it is only right we take one day to recognise everything they do.

“As well as celebrating their achievements, we want to raise awareness of how rewarding a career it can be and encourage others to become social workers.”

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Anne Galloway said:

“Social workers are represented in schools, as well as in residential and youth justice settings, alongside fostering, adoption and fieldwork.

“They offer invaluable support to children and families in some of the most difficult of circumstances.

“The last two years have been particularly tough, but our social workers have done an outstanding job of rising to the challenges posed by the pandemic.

“On World Social Work Day we thank them for everything they do to give every child in Bolton the best possible start in life.”
