Friday 23rd April will be the first time the public can talk to the Community Champions team and find out just what is involved in taking up one of these valuable roles.

The free webinar on Friday, from 2.30-3.30pm, will be a great opportunity for people to find out more about the scheme and what is involved, how they and their community can benefit and what training opportunities are available.

There will also be the chance to ask questions and discuss the important role of the champions and the impact on the wellbeing of residents in their community. As well as to discover how groups can get involved and apply for funding via the Bolton’s Fund.

The Community Champions programme launched just over a week ago with a new website and has seen applications for these vital, community-based roles already.

The new scheme encourages volunteers to share the latest, factual information about COVID-19 with people in their local area.  Also allowing for local residents to feedback any concerns or issues to the Community Champions team.

With the aim of keeping residents in communities safe and armed with the right information about the virus, the Community Champions will be a trusted local voice and a crucial part of the fight against COVID-19 and the recovery of our town.

Bolton Council’s Assistant Director of Public Health, Suzanne Gilman, said: “Our work on this new programme is well under way and we are delighted to have received such a great initial response to the Community Champion roles.

“It is the work of such dedicated and enthusiastic residents that will really help Bolton to tackle this virus and protect our residents, including those most at risk.”

The team are urging trusted and respected members of the community, with a passion for helping others and making a difference, to sign up to be a Bolton Community Champion.  No experience is necessary, just a willingness to give up your time to support people in your local community.
