A new team of COVID Support Officers will help Bolton shop with confidence this festive season.

Starting this weekend, officers across the borough will be on hand to answer enquiries, remind businesses of safety regulations and help shoppers follow COVID guidelines.

The teams will wear high visibility vests and hand out face coverings, promote the external hand sanitiser locations and hand out information leaflets where needed.

They will also be reminding shoppers to maintain social distancing, follow one-way systems and wear face coverings where required.

Officers are on standby to support the hospitality sector to reopen safely should Bolton be moved out of the Tier 3 level of local restrictions.

COVID Support Officers will not have enforcement powers but will report any serious breaches to the relevant council department.

Our new COVID Support Officers are there to provide advice and reassurance.

Bolton Council leader, Cllr David Greenhalgh, said:

“This has been a tough year for local businesses, and we want to do all we can to encourage people to shop safely and responsibly in our town centres.

“Our new COVID Support Officers are there to provide advice and reassurance so both shoppers and business owners.

“If you are able to visit your local high street this Christmas, please follow the guidelines, listen to the advice of our support officers and help keep everyone safe.”
