The Mayor of Bolton for 2020-22 is Councillor Linda Thomas
"I was born in Bury and raised in Prestwich before moving to Bolton 50 years ago and since then Bolton has become my adopted town, the one where I raised my family and that I love.
I was educated at St Margaret's CE school, idyllically placed next to Heaton Park in Prestwich followed by Stand Grammar School for girls in Whitefield.
Council life began as a Westhoughton Town Councillor in 1988 plus being Leader and Mayor of Westhoughton Parish Council at the same time. I was elected onto Bolton Council in 1988-1992 representing the Westhoughton South ward, and then to the Halliwell ward in 1995 to present. As a Bolton Councillor I have served as Deputy Chair Housing, Executive Member for Education & Children, Corporate Resources & Health & Social Care. I was Deputy Leader of the Council for 14 years followed by becoming the Leader of the Council which I feel was a great honour, becoming only the second female Leader of Bolton Council and also poignant seeing as it was at the time of the 100 years of Women's Suffrage.
For 30 years I have been Chair of Eatock Primary Westhoughton and Chair of Oxford Grove Primary Halliwell for 25 years. I have also been a Governor and the Chair of the PTA at St James CE Primary Daisy Hill, a Governor of Westhoughton High School and also a Governor of Bolton College for 16 years.
I have been married to Len for 49 years and have four children and ten wonderful grandchildren. My husband Len will be taking on the role of consort supporting me in my Mayoral year.
As Mayor, I will be supporting local charities Fortalice, Backup, Urban Outreach, Halliwell Befriending and The Octagon Theatre. Bolton is facing a global health pandemic so in my Mayoral year I will need to rise to the challenge to support all the fantastic work of our local people in helping others.
I am really looking forward to meeting many individuals, groups and charities from right across the borough and celebrating all their achievements."
