Alcohol Consumption Public Space Protection Order review 2026 - Consultations

Bolton Council welcomes your views to help us review the Alcohol Consumption Public Space Protection Order [PSPO] for the Borough of Bolton.

The Alcohol PSPO enables Greater Manchester Police [GM Police] and any other authorised officer to challenge alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour in a public place.

A Designated Public Protection Order was originally granted in 2012 and became a PSPO under the Anti-social behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The current PSPO was last renewed in 2023 and is due to expire on 20th October 2026.  We are now seeking to renew it for a further 3 years and would like feedback from the public and key stakeholders.

• Better Days, Bolton is a welcoming place in the heart of Bolton for anyone looking for help with alcohol or other drugs. They offer friendly advice, one‑to‑one and group support, workshops, and help with your prescription needs.  Referrals can be made online or by contacting 01204 483 090.
• Bolton 360° help and support to young people (usually this means up to 19 years old), their families and friends in a number of situations. They can give you time to talk about what’s going on in your lives and how alcohol or drugs are affecting you. The service is for young people who are using alcohol or drugs, or who are worried about alcohol or drugs. It is also for anyone who has a concern about young people and alcohol or drugs. You can contact 360° by telephone on 01204 462444 to refer yourself, get information and advice, or to book an appointment during office hours. There is an answerphone outside these times.You can drop in to the office between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
• Next Steps is a friendly group of community members aiming to make recovery and wellbeing better for everyone in Bolton. They provide non-clinical activities (social and recreational) to people in substance recovery, as well as carers.
