Son of George Worthington, Secretary of Blackrod Miners Association for 33 years.

Trade Unionist. President of Blackrod Miners Association from 1920 to 1927, when Meadow Pit closed.

Blackrod Miners Association delegate to the monthly meetings of the Lancashire and Cheshire Miners Conference for 12 years

First elected to the Council in 1920.

Chairman of General Purposes, Sanitary, and Farms Committees.

Represented Blackrod Council on the Horwich, Westhoughton and Blackrod Joint Hospital Committee.

Methodist - he worshipped at Blackrod Methodist Church and was manager of the Methodist Day School.

"He strived to serve the interests of the community as a whole but he always paid special attention to matters that affected the welfare of the local miners."
