Fred Jackson

Represented Ladyshore Ward from 1933. From then until 1953 he was continuously a Councillor except for 12 months following a defeat in 1936.

He represented the Council on the Divisional Health, Planning and Education Committees and the Irwell Valley Water Board.

He retired in May 1953 for health reasons when he was Chairman elect.

At one annual meeting he was nominated to serve on so many outside bodies that a minor storm blew up in the Council chamber.

He was a pioneer and stalwart of the Labour movement in Little Lever holding various positions in the local Labour Party and was a member of the Executive.

Congregationalist - he worshipped at Little Lever Congregational Church.

He was respected by all Parties and one prominent Conservative said "Fred Jackson was a gentleman and a loyal servant of the public, who served Little Lever well."
