Machine and metal broker, mill furnisher and haulage contractor.

Son of Michael Sunderland, a worker at a bleach works.

During the First World War he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Mesopotamia (now Iraq).

Represented Ladyshore Ward 1936-51.

He served on all Council Committees and was Chairman of the Higher Education Committee for two years.

He was actually Chairman of Little Lever Council four times as he replaced William Tatlock (who died in office) from January to April 1942.

During the Second World War he served as Chairman of Little Lever Central Charities Committee and on the War Savings Committee. He was also a Committee member of many other local organizations.

Freemason - member of the Bohemian Lodge No. 3294, Birkenhead.

Vice President of Little Lever Cricket Club.
