Chairman of William Edge & Son - "Dolly Blue" manufacturers.

Son of the company founder, William Edge.

Father of Capt William Edge, MP for Bolton 1916-1923.

Began his working life as a child as a half-time piecer in a spinning mill. By 18 he was an assistant teacher at the Mechanics Institute and by his early 20s had graduated to being spinning master in mills in Stockport. At 24 he became a salesman for his father's new business. Built on his knowledge of the industry by studying chemistry in Manchester.

Represented Smithills Ward from 1899 to his death in 1931. Alderman 1902.

Borough Magistrate 1904. County Magistrate 1905.

First Chairman of the Allotments Committee.

Chairman of the Food and Coal Control Committees and the National Service Committee.

Honorary Treasurer of the Westhoughton Division Liberal Association.

President of the Chamber of Commerce 1911 to 1913.

President of the Bolton Poor Protection Society and of Bolton YMCA.

He was knighted for Public and Local services on 12 August 1919.

Wesleyan Methodist - he was associated with Park Street Wesleyan Methodist Church for many years as well as with Chorley Old Road and Delph Hill Methodist Churches.

He is buried at St Peter's Church, Halliwell, Bolton.

Great uncle of Michael Constantine Cort, Chairman of Turton UDC 1963-64.

His wife, Mary Jane, was Mayoress.
