Ringley Bridge works

Major bridge works will start on Ringley Bridge in mid July. Due to the nature and complexity of the work, the A667 (Ringley Road / Kearsley Road) at the bridge will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians until mid December. You will need to find an alternative route.

The type of work being done involves the bridge being raised on jacks. To do this safely, the bridge must stay closed at all times until work is complete. The valley and ground conditions at Ringley Bridge are very difficult to work with so provision of a temporary bridge is unfeasible.

The area of closure is restricted to the bridge. Fold Road and Hulme Road will remain open at all times.

Arrangements for temporary bus services haven't yet been finalised, but suggestions are that a service would run from Bury to Fold Road then return to Bury. Another service would run from Bolton to Hulme Road then return to Bolton. Ringley Old Bridge would then provide a pedestrian link between the two services. The Council recognises that there are school services affected, these are being discussed too. More information will follow when confirmed.

The main alternative route is via the M60. However, becuase not all vehicle types are permitted on the motorway, we cannot sign this as a diversion route. The alternative is via Farnworth and Little Lever; but we are trying to lessen the impact of traffic on the village of Little Lever. For these reasons we will not be signposting a specific diversion route.
