Description

Highway Improvement works at the junction of Topp Way / Higher Bridge St will commence on Monday 18 May 2026. The works will last approximately 26 weeks and involve alterations to kerb lines / position of islands; carriageway resurfacing works and upgrading of the traffic signals at the junction.

The project is funded by City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement Fund delivered by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Bolton Council.

The carriageway resurfacing works will likely be undertaken overnight (weather permitting), where it may be necessary close the road or to restrict some traffic movements around the junction. These dates, along with any restrictions, will be posted in advance on site. The junction will remain open to traffic at all other times.

Increasing the safety of the Borough’s roads is a routine operation and it must be noted that safety for our road users and road workers is our top priority, and that has been the main consideration in all decisions that have been made.

Whilst the works will progress quickly, we do acknowledge that there may be some inconvenience to local residents and businesses. The Council would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience to local residents and road users and to thank you for your continued patience during this time.

As you are aware, construction sites are dangerous places. May we ask you to be vigilant during this period to ensure that people, and particularly children, do not try to gain entry into the working area.
