Have your say on Bolton’s draft Green Spaces Strategy (2025 - 2040).

Bolton Council is seeking feedback on the draft Green Spaces Strategy, which outlines the Council's vision and objectives for its green spaces for the next 15 years. The Green Spaces Strategy forms a part of Bolton Council's commitment to become carbon neutral by 2038 and will help to support nature recovery by providing a framework for green spaces for planning decisions in the borough.

What does the Green Space Strategy include?

The strategy is divided into a vision, which encompasses the overall aim of the strategy.  The vision for green spaces outlines that: green spaces will be essential to sustainable growth, they will improve our communities and provide benefits for all, and infrastructure will be designed to fit the community’s needs. This vision is broken down into seven focus areas and seven key objectives that the Council will prioritise.

  • Protected green spaces that continuously improve our communities and provide benefits for all.
  • For green spaces to be accessible, safe and protected.

What are the priorities?

  • To have safe open spaces
  • Green spaces that are protected for all
  • To have equal access to space

What are the key themes?

There are 7 key themes, including:

  • Communities
  • Biodiversity and Offsetting
  • Local Nature Recovery
  • Landscape, Culture and the Visitor Economy
  • Ecosystem Services
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Climate and Sustainability
