Headmistress of the Holy Family Primary School, Horwich for 30 years.

Represented East Ward from 1947 until 1974, with a two year break between 1950 and 1952.

When she was Chairman in 1972 she said of Local Government Reorganization, "We may belong to Bolton but we will remain 'Keaw yeds' to the end of our days."

Appointed a County Magistrate.

Represented Westhoughton on Greater Manchester Council and was a Governor of several schools.

Roman Catholic.

In August 1978 her sister, Mrs Catherine Gaskell, presented Bolton with a silver fruit bowl in her memory. She also presented Westhoughton District Council with a rose bowl to be used as a winner's trophy at future Westhoughton Summer Shows.
