Born in Horwich and like many other men worked at the Horwich Loco Works until its closure in 1983.

Leader of Horwich Council.

Opened the new and expanded Horwich Heritage Centre as Mayor of Horwich on 2 December 2005.

(The original Heritage Centre was opened on 10 October 1995 by then Mayor of Horwich, John Bragg.)

Anglican.

His wife, Lynn, was Mayoress.

"I have always had unusual hobbies including keeping lizards, fencing, archery, karate and medieval re-enactments and history".
