About

He served his apprenticeship as a joiner with W Blackledge and son, Adlington.

Manager of William Makinson & Sons, Building Contractors, Horwich for 15 years, when he started his own business in Bolton as a timber merchant and contractor, working on several public buildings.

For a few years before his retirement he worked as a woodwork teacher at Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School.

Represented East Ward from 1936, retiring in 1951.

He served on various Committees including Markets, Hospital, Town Planning, Rating valuation and others.

He was a member of the Adlington Dramatic Society.

He was a member of Horwich Golf Club for 24 years and was Captain in 1930-31 and was also a member of the Ridgeway Arms private bowling club in Blackrod.
