About

Son of Jonas Fearnhead, Chairman of Horwich Urban District Council 1911-12 and father of Leslie George Fearnhead, Chairman of Horwich Urban District Council 1970-71.

His family moved to Horwich in 1888.

Began career at Horwich Loco Works in 1890 as an office boy in the accounting department, retiring as Chief Cashier in 1940.

Represented South Ward 1918-1947.

Magistrate from 1921 - Chair of Bolton County Sessions Juvenile Court.

Chairman of the Finance Committee 1929-47, Elementary Education Sub- Committee 1929-45 and of the Divisional Education Executive 1945-47.

Retired from the Council in 1947 due to his wife's ill-health.

He had a close connection with Horwich Co-operative Society until 1950, when he retired from the Management Board of which he was President on several occasions.

Governor of Rivington and Blackrod Grammar School.

He was also Chairman of the RMI Cricket Club for 10 years.

Fearnhead Avenue in Horwich is named in honour of him and his service to the town.
