Elementary School teacher.

After taking his teacher's certificate, his first appointment was as Assistant Teacher at Saint Mark's, Bolton.

When he was first appointed as Headmaster of St Catherine's Church of England School, Horwich, his entire staff consisted of two pupil teachers. Thousands of Horwich children passed through his care until his retirement through ill health in 1927.

Vice President of Horwich Conservative Club.

Anglican - he was a member of the Parochial Church Council and was organist and Choirmaster at Saint Catherine's Church.

At his funeral 500 day school pupils lined the route to St Catherine's Church.
