Nathan Wardle

Village Postman of Lower Kearsley for 30 years.

Joined the Post Office on leaving school, working first at Pendleton. His grandfather, great grandfather and aunt were all at one time in charge of Stoneclough Post Office.

Served in First World War on active service.

Represented East Ward (Ringley) from 1921 until his death in 1934.

Magistrate.

Chairman of Higher Education Committee and Sanitary, Streets, Lighting and General Purposes Committee.

Overseer of the poor from 1923 to 1927.

Member of the British Legion and United Services Fund Committee from 1921.

Trustee and member of Ringley Conservative Club.

Anglican - he worshipped at St Saviour's Church Ringley where he was a Sidesman.

His obituary in the Farnworth Journal said "he had a ready smile and quip for everyone and it was his cheerful disposition, coupled with his willingness to perform obliging services, often at considerable personal inconvenience, that so endeared him to all he met."
