County Magistrate for 21 years.

Represented Kearsley on the Bolton Board of Guardians and was a former Chairman. He also represented the Board at meetings of The Poor Law Unions Association in London.

Chairman of Townleys Hospital for 10 years and laid the foundation stone of the Nurses Home.

Wesleyan representative on the Lancashire Education Committee and on the local Education Sub-committee District 22 for over 20 years.

Kearsley Overseer for 31 years and 15 years on the Kearsley Pensions Committee.

Wesleyan - Manager and Secretary of Kearsley Mount Wesleyan School for 40 years and Trustee and Sunday School Treasurer of Kearsley Wesleyan Church.

He lived at The Franklands, Station Road, Kearsley.

His grandson, Frank Shippobottom died on 20 November 1917 while serving as a Second Lieutenant in the 1st/4th Bn., The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in France. His name is on the War memorial outside the old Kearsley Town Hall.
