John Greenhalgh

Tailor and draper.

He was a member of the Farnworth Board for 12 years.

He was a member of the Committee which purchased the grounds of Farnworth Cemetery and he formed the Burial Board.

At the meeting of the Local Board on 4 November 1872 Mr Allanson, proposing John Greenhalgh as Chairman of the Local Board for the coming year, said, "he was a gentleman who had the required intellectual ability and social standing. He was an old resident of the town and had served the office of overseer for five years and filled other public offices with great credit to himself and satisfaction to ratepayers."

Alfred Barnes opposed the proposal because of Mr Greenhalgh's dispute with the surveyor, Mr Lomax.

He was one of the first Directors of Farnworth and Kearsley Gas Company until his death in 1885.

He was a member of the Farnworth Mechanics Institute.

He lived in Market Street, Farnworth.

He moved to St Annes in 1878 where he was elected to the Local Board and was still Chairman at the time of his death.
