Master cotton spinner, cotton mill manager and commission agent.

He worked for Thomas Barnes Co Ltd, Farnworth.

He was appointed Clerk of Farnworth Local Board 3 October 1881.

He was the fifth son of the Rev John Crossley, who became Pastor of New Chapel, Horwich.

When the Farnworth Liberal Association was formed in December 1868 he was the first President.

Methodist - he was known as a religious and temperance worker throughout Lancashire. He was a Sunday School teacher at 17 and a superintendent at 27. At the time of his death he was a Senior Deacon.
