Worked in the voluntary sector, local/central government, NHS and higher education as an equality, diversity, and inclusion specialist for over 25 years.

Represented Halliwell Ward from 2002 – 2023 and Queens Park & Central Ward from 2023.

Deputy Leader of the Labour group of Bolton Council 15 May 2020 – 6 May 2022 and again from 16 May 2023.

Deputy Leader of Bolton Council from 16 May 2023.

Served as Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, Environmental Services, Community and Neighbourhood Services and Corporate Resources (covering HR, Legal Services, Procurement and Finance) between 2006 and 2019 and Executive Cabinet Member for Regeneration from 2023.

Magistrate. Governor of Bolton College and Bolton Sixth Form College.

His wife, Nargis, was Mayoress.

On 20 January 2023 received King Charles III and Queen Camilla as guests of honour to commemorate the 150th anniversary year of the opening of Bolton Town Hall by His Majesty's predecessor as Prince of Wales in 1873.

Presented 820 Naval Air Squadron with a scroll marking their official affiliation with Bolton Metropolitan Borough on 22 March 2023.
