First Mayor of the newly formed Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council.

Born Doris Woodall, she ran a flower shop for the family nursery in Bolton Market Hall before marrying Walter Berry.

Represented Deane-cum-Lostock Ward and later Deane-cum-Heaton from 1954 to 1988 with only a one year break. Alderman 1967.

She was Chairman of the Environmental Health and Road Safety Committees and a member of many others.

Became a magistrate in 1968.

Honorary Alderman August 1988.

Was Mayor at the opening of Horwich Leisure Centre by Princess Anne on 18 March 1975.

As Mayor she accepted the current Badge to the Mayoral Chain of Office on behalf of the Council from Marcus Tillotson on 16 April 1975.

Chairman of Deane Conservative Ladies and was Secretary of pre-War 'Young Britons' - a youth group for Bolton Conservatives.

Worked in support of Kidney Research and Cancer Relief.

She was Governor of several schools including Bolton School.

Anglican.

Her daughter, Winifred Patricia Boyes, was Mayoress.
