Department of Transport consultation on Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Licensing Best Practice Guidance for Licensing Authorities in England

The Department of Transport (DfT) first issued best practice guidance to licensing authorities in 2006. This was refreshed in 2010. Much has changed in the taxi and private hire industry over the intervening years and the time has come to update the guidance to ensure it reflects new ways of working, new technology and feedback from interested parties.

The guidance has recently been updated to consider stakeholder views and changes in the way the sector operates. The DfT are now seeking views and supporting evidence from the public, licensing authorities and the taxi and private hire industry on the proposed updated version.

The consultation will run for 12 weeks from 28 March 2022 until 23:45 on 20 June 2022. The updated guidance and consultation questionnaire is available on the following link, which directs you to the Gov.uk pages:
