Description

Bolton Council operates ten libraries, three museums, an aquarium, and the History Centre, where the libraries and museum archives are kept. In addition, we support Neighbourhood Collection sites, which are run by our partners and enable people to borrow books from a small selection, order them from our stock [click & collect] and use public computers.

Whilst we are not proposing to close any of our libraries or museums, the service does need to make savings of around £430,000 in response to reduced council budgets.

This consultation asks for your views on our proposal to reduce opening hours for each library, close the History Centre on Sundays, and  reduce support for Neighbourhood Collection sites.

We also invite you to suggest alternative ways in which the service can save money whist continuing to provide a much-valued service for residents and visitors.

Please look at the supporting documents for further details of the service currently offered and the changes that are proposed.

Whilst the final decision on any service changes will be made by Elected Members [Councillors], your views are important in helping them come to a decision.
