Schools process pupil information in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Why do they hold information?

Schools hold information on pupils in order to support their teaching and learning, to monitor and report on their progress, to provide appropriate pastoral care, and to assess how well the school as a whole is doing.

This information includes:

  •  contact details
  •  national curriculum assessment results
  •  attendance information
  •  characteristics such as ethnic group
  •  special educational needs
  •  relevant medical information.

Who do we share information with?

From time to time schools are required to pass on some of this data to Local Authorities, the Department for Education (DfE) and to agencies that are prescribed by law, such as the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, Ofsted and the Learning and Skills Council , Department of Health  and Primary Care Trusts.

Schools provide parents with a copy of the Privacy Notice based on guidance from the DfE.

This is because schools must make individuals, whose personal data they hold, aware of why they hold their information and what they are going to do with it, this also includes who the school may share the information with.
