Keeping yourself and others safe
Safe and Found online
When someone goes missing, the police will try to find them and return them to a safe place as soon as they can. To do this, information is key and providing as much detail as possible will enable the police to look in the most likely places to find them as quickly as possible.
If you need to make a missing person report to the police, it can be a stressful experience. For that reason, a number of police forces in the UK are encouraging carers of vulnerable people who are a risk of going missing to compile useful information about them in a central place in advance. If key information is recorded on an online form provided by the police, at a time when you are calm and relaxed, then you are less likely to omit critical information, and this can save vital time in putting together a search and rescue plan in the event that a vulnerable person goes missing.
There are currently two main protocols supported by Greater Manchester Police:
The Herbert Protocol
The Herbert Protocol was introduced by the police working with other national agencies, primarly to reduce the risk of harm to someoe living with dementia,
For further information on the national scheme, visit the The Herbert Protocol
The Forcer Protocol
This is a pilot scheme currently being trialled in Greater Manchester and Cumbria to reduce the risk of harm to service veterans who go missing. More details are available on The Forcer Protocol

For a number of national police forces, including Greater Manchester Police, you can now register for both protocols and enter your key information on the Safe and Found online website by completing one on-line form
