Bike Week 2013
Bike Week, the UK’s biggest mass participation cycling event, will take place between 15 - 23 June in 2013, and Bolton is putting on two events.
Fun Bike Ride, Wednesday 19th June
Meeting from 6pm in Victoria Square in Bolton for a 6.30 start. Come and join a family-friendly bike ride from the square to Bolton Arena. Members of Lancashire Road Club will be marshalling the group from the Town Hall and along the Middlebrook Valley Trail to Bolton Arena, where free refreshments will include tea, coffee, squash and hot snacks. The route is about 5 miles and mostly flat.
You can make your own way home, or join those going back to the town centre.
Bike parking at the Arena will be available but you are strongly advised to bring a suitable lock. If you’re parking your car at Bolton Arena, please note the 3-hour maximum stay and register at reception if you’re going to be there longer.
Riders under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Contact 01204 336655 for more information.
Forest Bike Track, Sunday 30th June
Come and try a mountain bike trail with a difference: it’s in the town centre! This is a chance to try mountain biking on a track that gives you the excitement of a forest trail, with bends, bumps, berms and turns. It’s free to have a go, and staff on hand will provide the bike and guidance to get the most out of it. Even if you’ve never been mountain biking, this is a great chance to try something different! Contact 01204 336655 for more information.
Cycle routes and lanes
Cycling is a low cost form of transport that offers a healthy, congestion-free and non-polluting way to travel around the borough and beyond. The Council supports this mode of transport by providing cycle routes. The facilities on these routes can include simple signing, cycle lanes marked on the road, cycle tracks segregated from the footway or footways which are shared by both pedestrians and cyclists.
Any requests for new cycle routes will be considered in the context of the Council's transport strategy and available resources. To suggest a new cycle lane / route please contact the Network Planning Team.
