Annual council tax bills in Bolton are usually issued in March to be paid by 10 monthly instalments from April to January. However, you can ask for your instalments to be spread over 12 months from April to March.
You can also:
» choose to pay weekly, fortnightly, 4 weekly or monthly
» pay by direct debit, standing order, cash, cheque, debit or credit card

The website is available 24 hours a day and it is updated regularly, so you can see up to date information and check the progress of changes you have told us about. You will need to register but you will only need to do this once.
You can set up a direct debit for weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments on council tax. On business rates you can set up a direct debit for monthly payments, these will be made automatically until you ask your bank to stop them.

If you use a credit card to pay, a surcharge of 1.463% will be payable. This reflects the bank's charges to the Council for accepting credit card payments.
There is a minimum transaction amount of £5.
You can now pay your Council Tax, Business Rates, and Housing Benefit overpayments via Post Office and Pay Point.
You need to take your bill with you so they can scan the barcode on your bill or swipe your card for Council tax payments.

Payments can be made in person at the cashier section in the One Stop Shop at Bolton Town Hall. You will need to have your payment reference with you.

Cheque payments only can be deposited in the secure cheque payment box located in the One Stop Shop during the office opening hours of Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm and Saturday’s 9am to 1pm
