Carers Grants Scheme

The Council’s Carers Grants Scheme funds community organisations to provide information and support for carers in Bolton. £145,000 worth of grant funding has been awarded in 2013 and a second round of grants funding totalling up to £67,000 is now open to applications.

The second round of the Grants Scheme will target the following groups of carers:

  • Carers of adults with learning disabilities, particularly their need for breaks
  • Carers of adults with autism and Asperger syndrome
  • Older carers, where their own health problems and frailty is affecting their ability to support their loved one
  • Carers of adults with long term health conditions, for example stroke, coronary heart disease or diabetes
  • Carers of adults from Minority Ethnic Communities who require targeted information and support

Local registered charities, voluntary groups and registered social enterprises can apply for funding for interventions that will have a clear impact on reaching and supporting carers from one or more of the above priority groups of carers and contribute to the delivery of the priority outcomes for local carers identified in the Bolton’s Carers Strategy 2013-15, which are:

  • Information - Carers are enabled to make informed choices about care, support, health and wellbeing
  • Recognition - Carers’ contribution, knowledge and perspectives are valued
  • Targeted help and breaks - A network of support and chances to get a break, targeted at meeting diverse needs
  • Carers in touch with and supporting each other - Carers are supported by an active community network
  • Carer awareness - Carers’ needs are promoted in wider society, eg in workplaces, in education
  • Carers’ voice - Bolton’s carers influencing the design and delivery of local services

Application forms and guidance are now available on this website, with a closing date for applications of 20 December 2013. You can download guidance and an application form using the ‘downloads’ link at the top of the page.

Preventative grant scheme

The preventative grant scheme is designed to deliver activities that support vulnerable adults to maintain their independence or prevent their condition deteriorating, thereby reducing future dependence on statutory services. It is designed to support schemes which are developed by organisations working in Bolton that are registered charities, voluntary and community organisations or registered social enterprises.

In September 2011 Bolton Council gave the opportunity to organisations to apply for the Preventative Grant. There were two levels of grant funding available: innovation grants for new ideas and services to get started, and outcomes grants of up for larger scale organisations that could demonstrate their services will prevent or reduce the need for social care and support.

From April 2012 the following seven organisations were awarded with outcomes grants for two years:

  • Age Concern
  • Asian Elders Resource Centre
  • BAND
  • Bolton Society for Blind People
  • Haliwell Befriending Service
  • MhIST
  • Westhoughton Visiting Service

One organisation was awarded with the innovation grant for one year:

  • Farnworth UCAN User Group
