Play and Youth Service offer a range of free and low cost child centred play provision across the borough offering activities within local communities for children and young people aged  4-13 years old. All staff are DBS checked (previously known as CRB).

There are opportunities after school and during holidays where children and young people can take part in lots of different activities including:

  • arts and crafts
  • sports
  • drama
  • accredited activities

Many of our activities are focused around children and young people understanding and valuing their communities. We take a multiagency approach utilising the skills of statutory and voluntary partners including Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Sport and Active Living and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, to support children and young people's health and well being.

To ensure the highest quality service, we are signed up to the voluntary Ofsted Register for all of our drop in sessions.

Make a Positive Contribution

Volunteering and mentoring opportunities

The Play and Youth Team work with children and young people to provide activities which are fun, exhilarating and provide opportunities to help them enjoy life and achieve.

There are various opportunities for you to become involved and discover for yourself how you can support and encourage young people to make the most of their time outside of school hours.

There are services for children aged between 4 and 13 years old at indoor places such as play centres, outdoor venues such as parks and events and trips to various venues.

There are services for 13 to 19 year olds at many young people’s centres and outdoor activities across Bolton as well as opportunities to take part in national initiatives such as The Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Sporting activities are always popular with children and young people and there are opportunities to volunteer and mentor them in all sorts of activities, both indoor and out.

If you are more of a desk worker, we have opportunities for you to help us collect data to ensure we can monitor the activities we offer and provide and develop new ones.

And there’s something in it for you - no matter what your age.

By volunteering and mentoring young people, you can enhance their lives and your own. It’s a great way of getting involved and you gain experience and skills that can be added to your CV.

You don’t need any qualifications or skills, just the enthusiasm to help make a difference.

9-12 years old? Feel too old for play club? Why not come to Junior Youth Club?

These sessions support young people during the transition from play to youth and help build life skills in an informal and fun environment. The young people get an opportunity to take an active role in their provision which can include various activities such as cookery, drama, trips and sports.

These sessions address issues facing young people in a fun and engaging way to give them the confidence and support to move through adolescence. Staff offer a safe open environment that provides an opportunity for young people to seek advice, support and guidance.
