Vetting of contract and supplier staff

Children in a group

Bolton Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Fair and thorough recruitment, selection and interview processes are in place throughout the Council.  In addition, we ensure that the protection of children and vulnerable adults is a condition of awards, grants and service level agreements when planning the commissioning and contracting of services and that inspection mechanisms are in built as part of normal contracting arrangements as a means of auditing compliance.

Agency staff will be Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked by the supplying agency before being available to work.

Guidance in the Department for Children, Schools and Families document “Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education (2006)” requires mandatory background checks to be undertaken on relevant groups working in schools and with other vulnerable groups.  As a result, Bolton Council requires all contractors working within settings where vulnerable groups are present to have an enhanced CRB check in place.

Any contractors requiring a CRB check can have one completed via Bolton Council’s Safer Employment Team. For details please contact us (See 'Contact Information' on the right hand side).
