Getting involved with litter picking

Every week, hundreds of volunteers get involved in their community all across the Bolton and fill green volunteer bags with litter. If you, your school, or local community group would like to organise a voluntary litter picking event in your area, we can support you through lending litter picking equipment and bags.

We can also arrange for collection of the litter after the event. If you are considering a larger community clear up in your area, and larger items of waste need to be removed; we may also be able to help.

To request litter picking equipment, please email us at loveboltonhatelitter@bolton.gov.uk

Litter picking in a public place will always involve a level of risk to the individuals involved. Before commencing a litter pick please carry out a site inspection and risk assessment to identify the possible hazards. You'll find a health and safety guide in the download section.

Please treat items such as broken glass, drug related litter/hypodermics, and fly tipping with caution. If there is any doubt about an item, leave it, and let us know.

Our SHARPS team provides a free service to remove needles from public places. You can contact Sharps on free phone number 0800 731 9835 for a speedy response and advice. This is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
