Bolton Council is wishing everyone celebrating Eid-ul-Adha on Friday and over the weekend a happy and safe Eid.

As with other religious festivals during COVID-19, please continue to follow the government’s stay alert and safe (social distancing) rules to protect yourselves, your friends and families.

The most important actions you can take are to maintain social distancing during festivities and practise frequent hand washing.

50% discount with the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme

Get a 50% discount when you eat in at restaurants that are registered with the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme (starting 3 August).

The offer applies every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 3 and 31 August.

Plans for Bolton’s first ever virtual Food and Drink Festival revealed

The team behind the award winning Bolton Food and Drink Festival has announced exciting plans for their first ever online event.

The festival, organised by Bolton Council, will be streaming direct to people’s homes and handsets this August Bank Holiday and promises to be a virtual feast.

Council supports Bolton businesses out of lockdown

Site visits, safety guidance and thousands of advice letters are among the many ways Bolton Council has supported local firms as lockdown eases and the borough reopens for business.

Council officers have been in regular contact with licensed premises, hairdressers, retailers and many other businesses to provide up-to-date guidance and advice around re-opening.

Cabinet Member Cllr Hilary Fairclough said: “It is important to strike the right balance between kickstarting the local economy and keeping the public safe.

“As the lockdown eases, I look forward to many more businesses opening and thriving with the continued support of Bolton Council.”

Cube Fire Incident Report publication

Many lives were saved by the full and immediate evacuation of The Cube student accommodation in Bolton during a major fire in November 2019, a new Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service report has concluded.

Bolton Council played a key role in supporting people following the fire. The Council Leader, Chief Executive and staff were mobilised immediately and implemented the local authority’s civil contingencies’ emergency plan.

Pressure washer is the latest recruit in the war on graffiti

A new hot and colder water pressure washer will help to combat graffiti across Bolton.

The £30,000 washer has been purchased with funding from the £1.5m pot set aside by Bolton Council to improve green spaces and keep urban areas clean.

The Cleaner and Greener fund has already been used for new mowerstree planting in Farnworth Park and new “Glutton” street cleaners.

Octagon NCP multi-storey car park closed for a few hours this Sunday

Due to electrical maintenance work, this car park will be closed on Sunday from 8am to Noon.

Alternative parking is available at other NCP multi-storeys, NCP surface level car parks or on-street.

Take part in a Healthwatch survey

A new Healthwatch project is seeking to find out how rapid discharge arrangements implemented during COVID-19 have impacted on patients, families and carers in Bolton.

Take ten minutes to tell Healthwatch what happened when you or your loved one were discharged from hospital to improve care for everyone.

National updates

Extension of self-isolation period from 7 to 10 days

People who test positive for coronavirus or show symptoms must now self-isolate for 10 days, rather than seven.

The change has been announced by the UK's Chief Medical Officers.

MOT testing back from 1 August

Drivers are being reminded that mandatory MOT testing is being reintroduced from 1 August 2020.

All drivers whose car, motorcycle or van is due for a MOT test from 1 August must book their vehicle in to be tested as usual.

Failure to do so could result in a fine, points on your license or even a possible ban from driving.

Better Health support

A range of free tools and apps are available to help people to eat better, drink less alcohol and get active.

It’s all part of the Better Health campaign which supports people to live healthier lives and reduce their risk of serious illness, including COVID-19.
