Westhoughton Steering Group has a new chair, who will advise on the town’s regeneration projects.

Cllr Andrea Finney, who represents Westhoughton North and Chew Moor, will take on the new role which is a crucial part of Bolton Council’s plans to regenerate district centres.

This follows the decision by the current Chair, Cllr Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon, to step down from the role.

In 2019, Bolton Council committed £12m to regenerating the district centres of Farnworth, Little Lever, Horwich and Westhoughton.

A Steering Group was appointed for each area to oversee the development of local masterplans, make sure projects are delivered and to ensure key outcomes are achieved.

The Steering Groups bring together business owners, politicians and other local stakeholders.

Cllr Finney said: “I am honoured to have been appointed as Chair of this important local group.

“Bolton Council is committed to regenerating Westhoughton and I am looking forward to reflecting the views of local people as these projects progress.

“Westhoughton is a town with a proud heritage with many exciting opportunities ahead.”

Cllr Bernadette Eckersley-Fallon said: “I have had the privilege of being Chair of this group and seeing first-hand the dedication and commitment to ensure we deliver the best possible results for residents.

“I am very passionate about our town and wish the new Chair well - I think it’s a really exciting time for the people of Westhoughton.”

Cllr Finney will take up her position as Chair at the next meeting of the group on  November 2.
