Leaving a property empty for long periods of time can result in vandalism, as well as deteriorating both its condition and value.  These issues can have a negative impact on the area.

Long term empty properties can also cost the owner money. 

When the property has been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for one year, a premium of 100% will also be charged. This means that you will be charged 200%.

  • Once a property has been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for five years then the premium will increase to 200%. This means that you will be charged 300%.
  • Once a property has been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for ten years then the premium will increase to 300%. This means that you will be charged 400%.
