Change appearance and text size of the site
The Accessibility settings allows you to change the look of the Bolton Council website to suit your needs.
We've provided three preset options for you to choose from, these include the option to change background colours or make the font sizes bigger. These are available on the top of every page.
We have teamed up with Texthelp Systems to provide a service which gives our visitors the chance to listen to bolton.gov.uk. All you have to do is simply install the free Browsealoud software.
Follow the link on the right to go to the download page.
Text size
You can change the text size via your internet browser by selecting view on the menu of your browser then text size or text zoom (variable on browser used) then select the display size.
Some documents on our site are available in a PDF format, this helps us to preserve the original format securely in a relatively small file size.
In order to view the document you will need an Adobe Acrobat Reader which is freely available to download
To assist with accessibility Adobe has developed a tool to convert PDF documents to read like a normal web page; the link below will take you to the PDF converter.
Follow the links on the right.
Keyboard shortcuts control various browser functions and are often a useful and quick way of navigating through a site.
For the vast majority of browsers, use your Tab key to navigate forward through links (use Shift + Tab to go backwards), and Enter to activate the link.
Access keys
Access keys let you navigate around a website without using a mouse. You may find them a convenient way to move round the site without having to move your mouse at all.
Bolton Council use the following access keys:
S - Skip Navigation
2 - What's New
7 - Complaints Procedure
8 - Terms and Conditions
0 - Access Key Details
This website should enable you to find the information you want, either about services you need, or about issues you are interested in. We have organised the information on the site under subject headings as well as grouped all the information relevant to different community groups together in one place with the aid of user groups.
It will offer residents, businesses, visitors, parents and carers, young people, and older people more personalised content relevant to their particular communities and circumstances
Websites must by law be accessible, and should meet the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) standards on accessibility. In the same way that we have made changes to our buildings to make them more accessible to people with disabilities, we have made changes to our website.
Council website
The Bolton council website aims to be both accessible and usable to all that need information from it.
Our aim is to provide customers with equal access to information and services. Accessibility has been paramount since the design stage and we have taken steps to ensure we take into account the needs of different people.
We have followed guidance and standards by the Government, and our pages conform to the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. The Accessibility Guidelines explain how to make Web content accessible to people with disabilities. Conformance to these Guidelines helps to make the Web more accessible to users with disabilities and benefits all users.
There are a few pages which may not comply fully to the above guidelines. We are continuously carrying out work to improve these pages so that we conform to the guidelines.
Use of maps
Some of our information is based on maps and unfortunately due to the graphical nature maps we are unable to provide an alternative accessible format.
We are constantly working to improve the accessibility of this site and really would welcome your suggestions and comments. Please use the contact information on the right to tell us about any problems you encounter so that we can continuously improve access for everyone who interacts with our website.
