Navigating our website
On the left hand side of the site you will find a list of categories of information. These categories can be clicked on to view information.
At the top of every page there are separate tabbed sections for residents, businesses, visitors, parents and carers, young people and older people. These sections allow you to directly access information relevant to you in one place.
The residents' tab gives you access to information by geographical area. When you enter your home address you will be able to see your nearest schools, libraries, waste recycling, planning applications as well as details of your local area forum.
Breadcrumb trail
To assist you with moving back and forth between the pages there is a ''bread crumb' menu at the top of each page - this starts with 'You are here - Home' so you can see the path you have followed to reach your destination and use it to revisit previous pages, (or you may prefer to use your web browser's back button).
Use the search box to type in your own word(s) and carry out a search on the website. The search box can be found in the top or right hand corner of every page. It is best to use one or two key words rather than a long sentence.
Tell us if you don't find what your looking for when searching our site by using the quick feedback facility on the search page. This will help us to improve our site and help other customers trying to access the same information.
A-Z of services
The A-Z is another method for finding information on the site. It lists information relating to services provided by Bolton Council, in alphabetical order. Simply click on the first initial letter of the service you require. Local terms have been included in the A-Z to help you find information the first time.
Pages on the Bolton council website usually take the form of the following:
- text - providing you with all the information you need
- feeback options - You can feedback using the options at the bottom of each page. Let us know about improvements you would like to see or just rate the content by clinking on the good, poor or average options. This feedback helps council departments to improve their pages and communicate information in a clearer way in the future
- social bookmarking links - you will also find links to assorted social bookmarking websites at the bottom of each page. These sites allow you to store, tag and share links across the internet. You can share these links both with friends and people with similar interests. These sites are free to use but may require you to register for first use.
- do it online - links to online forms to access services
- links to further information - this may take you to other parts of the Bolton site or to external sites
- contact details - write to address, link to map showing the visit address, phone number and email relating to the service provider
