Get Involved
Bolton's Youth MPs want you to get involved
Bolton elects two new UK Youth Parliament Youth MPs each year! Our current Youth MPs are Christie Fisher & Wangu Chafawa, their role is to sit on the Children's Trust which makes decisions about services for children and young people in Bolton, meet other Youth MPs regionally and nationally as well as be the voice of young people in Bolton and organise meetings, debates and events for children and young people in Bolton to have their say on issues that affect them.
The Youth MPs are also supported by a hard working group of young people who are members of UK Youth Parliament - they go out and visit youth projects, organise events and attend regional UK Youth Parliament meetings every six weeks.
*NB We recommend young people aged 14 years upwards apply to be Youth MPs as the role is very demanding!
Last year the Youth MPs met with Home Secretary Jacqui Smith; GMP Chief Constable Peter Fahy; organised a regional transport meeting and debated with other Youth MPs in the House of Commons.
Volunteering
The Volunteer Centre is located at the Bolton Hub (Community Centre). They offer many volunteering opportunities for children aged 16 plus.
Young Volunteers
Are you aged 14 years upwards and interested in a future career in childcare, healthcare or youth work? Then why not volunteer at one of our many playschemes, which are designed for children aged 4 to 13 years to play and enjoy themselves. If you like working with children to suport them to play sport or take part in other activities and you want to learn new skills, receive training, meet new people, have fun and gain confidence then why not become a Play Service Young Volunteer.
"Your Health and You" group
If you are aged 13 - 19 years (up to 25 years for young people with a disability) interested in a career in health or you want to tell adults what health services in Bolton should look like for children and young, then why not get involved! This year we have met with NHS Minister Lord Darzi; one of our group Mohammed Koya is Youth Governor at Bolton Royal NHS Hospital Foundation Trust; applied for funding from Terence Higgins Trust to run health sessions in schools and met with other young people at a half day conference in Bolton to shape Sexual Health Services in Bolton.
Cash Panel
If you are aged 13 - 19 years (up to 25 years for young people with a disability) and want to help us make decisions on funding activities in your area, then why not join your area Cash Panel.
Each year we are given a budget from the Government, young people write applications to us for money and we are trained on how to make decisions on whether to fund them or not, through this we have gained confidence, met new people, had a laugh and go out on trips.
Do you live in Little Lever?
Little Lever Youth Council are an annually elected group of young people from Year 6 upwards, who represent young people in Little Lever. Last year we were successful in gaining a grant from the Area Forum and consulted young people about what activities they wanted to see in the Leisure Centre.
