Public Inspection of Accounts and right to challenge

Audit Commission Act 1998, Section 15 and 16, Accounts and Audit (England) Regulations 2015, 9 and 15

Notice is hereby given that:

  1. During the period of Monday 4 June to Friday 13 July 2018, within office hours, any interested person may inspect and make copies of the Accounts of the above named Council for the year ended 31 March 2018 and all books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts relating thereto. Application should be made initially to the Chief Executive’s Department, Town Hall, Bolton, BL1 1RX (telephone 01204 333856 – Monday to Friday between 8.45am and 5.00pm.)
  2. Notice is also given that on or after Monday 4 June 2018 until the completion of the audit the auditor, at the request of the local government elector for any area to which the accounts relate, will then give the elector or his representative an opportunity to question him about the accounts, and that any such elector or his representative may attend before the auditor and make objections under Section 15 and 16 of the Audit Commission Act 1998, as to any matter in respect of which the Auditor could take action under Section 17 or 18 of the Act, namely an unlawful item of account or a loss or deficiency caused by wilful misconduct or could make a report in the public interest under Section 8 of the Act.
  3. Questions may be received at St Peter’s Square, Manchester, by arrangement with the Auditor, to whom requests for this purpose may be addressed. No objection may be made unless the auditor has previously received written notice of the proposed objection and its grounds. A copy of the notice must also be sent to the Chief Executive, Bolton Council, at the Town Hall, Bolton.

We are required to produce an Annual Statement of Accounts at the end of each financial year.

The purpose of this statement is to present a true and fair view of our activities for the year ending 31 March.  The annual statement of accounts is externally audited.

Auditor information

Bolton Council have appointed Mazars as its Auditor, for the period 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2023.

The changes have been made after advice from the Public Sector Audit Appointments organisation.
