Road safety - dangerous road junctions

The Council receives many requests for traffic schemes and safety improvements at junctions and therefore, as funds are limited for this type of work we have to prioritise schemes to ensure that those which are implemented are providing the most benefits for the residents of Bolton.

The issues that will be taken into consideration when schemes are prioritised are:

  • The number and severity of reported road injury collisions on the road or at the junction.
  • Traffic speeds
  • Traffic volumes
  • Are there any pedestrian generators in the area such as shops, schools etc.
  • Will the improvement benefit public transport
  • Will the scheme help pedestrians or cyclists
  • Will the scheme help relieve congestion

Issues like those listed above are taken into account because they link into national policies and strategies relating to transport and road safety.

If you have concerns related to a particular junction or road, then you can contact the Highways Network Planning, Safety and Management Team using the contact details on the tab above.
