Bolton has several different types of road safety cameras on roads within the borough, these include the following:
Safety Cameras - These consist of speed cameras including fixed and mobile sites with the camera monitoring vehicles for speeding violations. Red light cameras which monitor cars which continue travelling through a traffic signal that is indicating for them to stop. There is also speed over distance cameras which are usually used with major roadworks.
Watchman Traffic Calming System - These are electronic vehicle activated display units providing a highly visible reinforcement of the existing speed limit and can be activated at speeds which are at the lower end of speeds in excess of the speed limit. For example 32mph on a 30mph speed limit road.
Driver Feedback signs - The Driver Feedback Sign works by using an in built radar which records the speed of passing vehicles and displays that speed back to motorists through the LED display. As the motorist changes speed the display changes accordingly.
