Development briefs

A development brief is a detailed guidance document published by the council for an individual site or area allocated for development in the local plan, Unitary Development Plan (UDP) or the Local Development Framework (LDF)

The brief indicates the kind of development the council would support and provides information to possible developers on issues such as the preferred siting, design and layout of buildings and the need for associated infrastructure, services and any specific requirements of the council or other bodies.

The brief sets out the vision and aspirations for a development and is grounded firmly in the economic, social, environmental and planning context.

Bolton has development briefs on the following topics:

  • Bolton Economic Development Zone
  • Bolton Innovation Zone
  • Bolton Mills Action Framework
  • Clarence Street
  • King Street
  • Little Bolton Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI)
  • Public Realm Implementation Framework
  • Westbrook Gateway
