Whether to certify a place of worship for public worship is up to the congregation. If they wish to certify their building they should contact their local Register Office. All places of public worship need to be certified except Church of England Churches.
Once registered for public worship it is possible to register a building for the solemnization of marriages, this excludes Jewish Synagogues and meeting houses of the Society of Friends who have no requirment to do this. Application should be made to the Superintendent Registrar of the register office where the building is situated. The application should be made by proprietor or trustee.
