
Membership of the library is free and anyone can join
To obtain a Bolton library card simply visit your local library with proof of ID to confirm your name and address. Opening times for libraries in Bolton can be found by clicking on the Branch Libraries link on the right and then selecting the relevant library.
Once you are a library member, your library card can be used at any Bolton library for everything you want to borrow and to access public computers. You will need your library number to access the libraries online resources.
What can I borrow?
You can borrow books, DVDs, Videos, CDs, and Language courses from Bolton libraries. In general, non fiction videos, DVDs and language courses are free to borrow. We also have talking books – these are free to borrow for people with disabilities although all other borrowers will be charged the standard hire charge for these items. We also have reference items which cannot be taken out of the library, although you will find plenty of study areas within the library where you can sit and do your research in comfort.
Where can I return items?
In general, you may return items borrowed from any Bolton library, to any Bolton library. The only exception to this is with new DVDs which can only be borrowed from and returned to the same library.
When you join any of our public libraries in Bolton, your membership card entitles you to borrow items from all of our libraries.
