Language and cultural support

Supporting pupils and parents

BEMAS

What we do:

The Bolton Ethnic Minority Achievement Service has 20+ members of staff including English as an additional language (EAL) teachers, bilingual instructors, bilingual teaching assistants and induction support assistants who work in primary and secondary schools.

In partnership with schools and their staff, BEMAS:

  • helps EAL pupils to develop their English language and literacy skills
  • helps EAL pupils to access all areas of the curriculum
  • helps EAL pupils to achieve their full potential
  • helps to raise the attainment of under-achieving ethnic minority pupils
  • involves parents in their children's learning
