Work is underway on a £4m housing development in Bolton town centre.
A mix of 28 two-bedroom and 12 one-bedroom apartments are being built at the Westpoint site, on Spa Road.
These are the first homes being delivered in the first phase of Bolton Council’s Transforming Estates programme, which will see 145 new affordable housing units developed in Bolton over the next year.
The Westpoint housing scheme is being developed with, and will be owned and managed by Great Places Housing Group.
Building work has started and a steel framework is being erected on site by leading construction firm Rok.
Councillor Nick Peel, Bolton Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Stephen Porter, Chief Executive of Great Places Housing Group visited the site on Friday, March 12.
Councillor Peel said: “It’s great to see first hand the work being done to build these affordable homes. Westpoint will help provide much needed new housing for local people and it’s in a great, convenient location, right next to the town centre. Great Places has a good track record of providing good quality, well managed homes and it’s really exciting to see this project becoming a reality.”
Stephen Porter added: “We’re delighted to be involved in the transformation of this neighbourhood. We want to make it a great place to live that will thrive and be popular for years to come.”
The total amount of investment for the first phase of Transforming Estates is around £17m with the Homes and Communities Agency providing £8m. The remainder of the investment will be funded through the housing associations who deliver the schemes.
The whole programme aims to deliver 6,000 homes, of which 3,000 will be for sale and 3,000 for affordable rent over the next 12 years, dependent on market conditions and securing planning approval.
Construction on Westpoint should be finished at the end of this year with tenants moving in early next year.
