Young musicians urged to rock it

A rock school project aimed at helping budding musicians in Bolton is set to open its doors again.

Rock It! 2010 launches on Saturday, April 24 and runs each week until March 2011, with a break for summer and Christmas.

The project provides an insight into the music industry for young people aged 12 to 18 and is suitable for all levels of musical ability, including beginners.

The weekly sessions take place at the DOA Studios in Halliwell and are open to a range of talents, including drummers, vocalists, keyboard players, electric and bass guitarists.

Sessions take the form of group tuition and the first term prepares the musicians for a Rock It! performance in July.

Those continuing with the project will get the chance to take part in recording sessions and, on completion, the young people will be given the opportunity to become Rock It! volunteers and work towards an arts award accreditation.

Trials will take place on Saturday, April 24 and anyone wishing to try out should register in advance with Mindee Hutchinson, details in the right hand panel.

More information can also be found on Facebook by searching Rock It! Bolton under the groups section, where former Rock It! graduates are available to chat.

The first term is free of charge and a nominal fee will be charged for subsequent terms.
