Road improvements will start next week to help the building of a new Tesco store in Farnworth.
The new Tesco is being built on the site of the former Farnworth Neighbourhood Shopping Centre in Longcauseway.
The scheme will involve traffic signals being installed at the junction of Longcauseway and Bradshaw Street to enable an entrance to be constructed to the store.
Longcauseway and Worsley Road will also be widened and resurfaced. The scheme is expected to take approximately 20 weeks to complete.
The store will bring 240 jobs to the area and is set to open in May 2011. Local company J Hopkins Ltd are carrying out the road works for the council.
Councillor Cliff Morris, Leader of Bolton Council, said: “We have worked hard to bring this investment and these jobs to Farnworth and is a key element in our plans to regenerate the area. I am delighted that people will now see the development starting and these are necessary works to help people access the store.
“We will make every effort to keep traffic moving and carry out the most disruptive work in off peak hours. We would ask residents and motorists to be patient while work is underway.
